Torquay Athletic Rugby Football Club with help from kit sponsor Bedrock Business Finance are delighted to announce their plans for a charity event to raise money for cancer treatment at Torbay Hospital’s, Ricky Grant Unit.

On Saturday February 9, TIC’s are playing Yatton RFC and will wear pink ‘limited edition’ shirts sponsored by Bedrock and supplied by local sports kit supplier Lovell Rugby. There will be a collection at half time to raise money for the Ricky Grant Unit and after the game a charity raffle. To make the evening go with a swing, Waverley TBS and Scottish & Newcastle Breweries have sponsored the bar with kegs of beer and drinks promotions to help raise money for the Day Centre Chemotherapy Unit at Torbay Hospital.

First Team captain Ben Passenger said: “We have great commitment from all the players to make this a successful fund raising event with players as always competing for first team starts and the opportunity to buy their limited edition shirt. We are grateful for the support from our shirt sponsor Bedrock and there are some great packages donated by local businesses in the charity raffle ranging from golf packages, sporting memorabilia as well as the few remaining ‘pink’ playing shirts.”

Ben added the players and club have chosen to support the Ricky Grant Unit as a few very close friends are being treated there at the moment. One is the club’s long standing bar stewardess and the other is a current player at the club. Anyone who cannot make the match but would like to make a donation can do this by sending a cheque made payable to Torquay Athletic RFC with covering note that it is for the Ricky Grant Unit.

Gary Spencer, Director of Bedrock Business Finance said: “This is our second year as kit sponsor to TIC’s and we are delighted to be helping the club raise money for Torbay Hospital by providing the pink ‘limited edition’ shirts for this fixture. We are a local business with strong links to the rugby club and Torbay and hope that this will be a successful event helping to improve the facilities at our local hospital to fight cancer.”

When TIC’s met Yatton away, they squeezed home by one point so it is likely to be a close encounter. This year Yatton are celebrating their 40th anniversary and will no doubt be looking to have a strong season. So if you have not recently visited the Rec why not head down for the 2:30 kick-off on Saturday February 9? It is likely to be a very competitive game of rugby and give you an opportunity to contribute to a wonderful cause that will benefit Torbay.
